Dr Alexander Welbourne
PDRA
Alex is a PDRA working with Dr Tom Hayward as part of the EPSRC project “From Stochasticity to Functionality: Probabilistic Computation with Magnetic Nanowires”. He joined the FMM group at the end of 2019. He was previously a PhD student in Prof Russell Cowburns group at the University of Cambridge, supervised by Dr Amalio Fernández-Pacheco looking at strain based control of synthetic antiferromagnets.
Alex is currently working on making use of stochastic behaviour in nanomagnetic materials for neuromorphic computing; he’s studying magnetic nanowires and superparamagnets using a variety of fabrication, characterisation and modelling techniques.
