Elizabeth Davis-Fowell
Liz is a PhD student under the EPSRC/SFI AMSCDT, sponsored by VW to look into Rare-Earth Free Permanent Magnet (REFPM) designs for electric drive motors, supervised by Professor Russell Goodall and Professor Dan Allwood. Having previously completed an MPhys at the University of Warwick in 2017, Liz joined the FMM working group in 2020, following 2 years working in the Nuclear Decommissioning sector. Her current area of interest is in the behaviour of the τ-state of MnAl, in an effort to improve its magnetic characteristics for bulk industrial applications via refinement of manufacturing processes and investigations into doping the structure to counter Mn oversaturation in the lattice.
Liz is also the lead animator, voice actor and director of ‘Menacing Metallurgy’, an upcoming YouTube series of sketches sponsored by the EPSRC/SFI AMSCDT to communicate material science concepts to children.
